Lead annual report of implemented activities
The genesis of Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Accountability for Development (or LEAD, in acronym) stemmed from the 44th US President Barack Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI). In 2014, the first 6 Rwandans were selected to participate in one of the YALI programs, the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders. The following cohort of Mandela Washington Fellows joins their predecessors to implement a Menstrual Hygiene Management project in four secondary schools across the country. This project and several other projects that followed strengthened the collaboration and built the relationship of the fellows.
The U.S. Government has been supporting many Rwandans to participate into several exchange programs. Most of them (Rwandans) got training in Civic Leadership, Public Policy, Public Management, Education, Energy, Environment, Conflict resolution, Peace and Security, Democracy, Human rights, Community Development, International relations, etc. Some of those alumni came back to Rwanda and they are currently serving the nation from different perspectives. However, their work is not well-visible and documented. The funded project was one among the projects that intends to connect all those people and make sure that the obtained skills serve the community in a measurable way. This was justified by how during the implementation of the project there was a monitoring plan through LEAD aimed at measuring the impact of the skills that the alumni got in the US. Alumni were invited to different meetings to share their skills with the public. All U.S. Exchange programs also were communicated and inspired the youth to also apply and participate in those programs.
On 24th October 2022, through this program, LEAD made a field work, intended to offer materials assistance to Wash Clubs from two schools in Huye district. In previous workshops of trainings, the Wash Club members wished to have materials assistance in order to improve their contributions on Hygiene and Sanitation as Wash Clubs at Schools and their communities. ‘Lead’ have received this request and respond it positively.
